Every year ‘Sea View Mermaids’ welcomes over 2,000 guest sailors who delight in racing the fleet of 12 identical Mermaid 26-foot keelboats. The boats retain their classic ‘Solent’ design, have a selection of rig options, and are ideal for highly-skilled sailors or beginners alike. Guests enjoy an exceptional yacht racing or cruising experience, followed by first-rate onshore hospitality exclusively arranged at Sea View Yacht Club.
‘Sea View Mermaids’ provides not only the boats, but the sailing race courses and the necessary race officials who ensure that the sailing experience is professionally delivered. Experienced helms from Sea View Yacht Club can also act as skippers for less-experienced charterers. The Clubhouse offers full catering and business meeting facilities. These well-equipped premises command breath-taking panoramic views of the sailing and the Solent.
The Sea View Yacht Club itself, established in 1893, occupies a unique location right on the waterfront of picturesque Seaview village on the north-east shores of the Isle of Wight. It enjoys views across the Solent to Portsmouth, its harbour and over to the harbours of Langstone and Chichester.
The Clubhouse is built on one of Henry VIII’s chain of sea-defence forts, so the outlook is excellent, with an almost 270 degree vista across the Solent from Southampton Water round to the Nab Tower and the deep-water shipping channels. The race-courses offered to 'Seaview Mermaids’ charterers are arranged around a network of buoys laid just off the Club in waters recognized to be some of the best in the Solent for racing. Spectators get an excellent grandstand view of all the racing from the Club’s decks.
Sea View Yacht Club has changing and showering facilities as well as two bars and two dining areas. On days when the weather is fair (the Isle of Wight has more days of sunshine than other parts of England), 'Sea View Mermaids’ guests can take breakfast and lunch out on the deck, admiring the Solent views and enjoying the sunshine.
‘Sea View Mermaids’ professional boatmen ferry crews to their Mermaids and offer assistance in rigging them. They then provide safety-boat cover and bring sailors ashore at the end of each race series. For a moderate additional fee, a number of guests can be taken out in a Club motorboat to enjoy close-quarters spectating and photography.
All ‘Sea View Mermaids’ charterers receive Sea View Yacht Club temporary membership during their stay and are invited to extend it to full membership if they wish.
